Release Date: 2011-11-08
Well, what do we have here? Ah yes, a massive collaboration between Kaskade & Skrillex, on Kaskade’s new album “Fire & Ice”. Simply put, Progressive House meets Dubstep. The best part about the track is the energy behind it. Massive basslines manufactured by Skrillex are smoothly engineered over an instrumental loop by Kaskade. This will surely rock many concerts over this winter.

2. AFROJACK “LIONHEART” [ORIGINAL MIX] (WALL RECORDINGS)
Release Date: 2011-11-07
Afrojack’s newest single is a massive electro-banger, full of funky electronic quirks and tons of bass. Yes, this is the style that we all attribute to the Dutch sensation Afrojack. Having already been picked up on by Pete Tong’s Essential Tune, this track will soon be on the tracklist for many podcasts.

3. DADA LIFE “HAPPY VIOLENCE” [VOCAL EXTENDED MIX] (SO MUCH DADA)
Release Date: 2011-10-31
Dada Life’s “Happy Violence” stays in the top #5 for another week. I swear these guys come up with some of the most unique electronic sounds. They must spend a massive time toying around with their MIDI controller and Ableton Live. Fear the DADA!

4. ABOVE & BEYOND, MIGUEL BOSE “SEA LO QUE SEA SERA” [MYON & SHANE 54 SUMMER OF LOVE MIX] (ANJUNABEATS)
Release Date: 2011-10-23
There isn’t a track out there that defines “global” more than A&B’s new single. First off the vocals are done entirely in Spanish by Miguel Bose. Second, the instrumental has that chill tranquil sound that only A&B can produce. In case you’re wondering the title translates to “Whatever Will Be, Will Be”…or in my tongue “It Is What It Is”.

5. HEATBEAT ”ROSES NEVER CRY” [ORIGINAL MIX] (SOUNDPIERCING [ARMADA])
Release Date: 2011-10-03
This is the first time Heatbeat has graced my top #5. It also is the first time an Argentian DJ has made the list (they’re actually a duo made up of Agustin Servente and Matias Faint). What a great trance hit we have here. A melodic intro that’s integrated into a pounding bassline harmonized over by some graceful female vocals. I give many props to Armada’s R&D for finding these guys.

I would like to end this entry by stating, for those who are wondering, that yes Avicii “levels” is not on this week’s list and will not be on any future ones. It was in the top #5 in the beginning of summer. You probably have noticed it “topping” the charts now. The reason being is that it finally was legally released by his new label LE7ELS. Enjoy this week’s list!
1. ZEDD “STARS COME OUT” [ORIGINAL MIX] (Dim Mak Records)
Release Date: 2011-11-22
The young German Zedd, at only the age of 22, has busted out a skillful new electro house hit. This marks his third huge single to come out in 2011 with the others being “Shave It” and “Dovregubben”. This great song is not only festival ready, but is set for play at the club. Heather Bright also does a great job on vocals; don’t be surprised if you hear hear name on even more EDM songs.

2. MICHAEL CALFAN “RESURRECTION” [AXWELL’S RECUT CLUB VERSION] (Axtone Records)
Release Date: 2011-11-21
All I have to say, is that this is one of the smoother tracks I’ve listened to. Axwell’s work can clearly be seen on the track, as he has smoothed over transitions and added some epic drops. We really haven’t heard much from Axwell recently, to be specific “Heart is King” this summer. It’s good to see some fresh new talent on the scene with Calfan.

3. TIESTO, STEVE AOKI “TORNADO” [ORIGINAL MIX] (Dim Mak Records)
Release Date: 2011-11-15
The more and more I listen to this collaboration by Tiesto and Aoki, the more I enjoy it. Initially I thought there was too much abruptness to the the track. However, after giving the track another week, I’m starting to follow the flow. This is a high energy track, that will keep any crowd energized. It is best suited for the festival setup however.

4. KYAU & ALBERT “ARE YOU FINE” [ARTY REMIX] (Euphonic)
Release Date: 2011-11-21
The German DJ duo Kyau & Albert release a massive single remixed by Arty (AKA Russian Wonderkid). Even though they’re not on the Anjunabeats label, it sounds close enough to me to make it count. Arty is able to add the big “house” feel to the single. The original mix sounds good, but this remix just sounds and feels better. This is a great track that was featured at Trance Around The World 400 in Lebanon.

5. ABOVE & BEYOND “FORMULA ROSSA” [ORIGINAL MIX] (Anjunabeats)
Release Date: 2011-11-27
First off, in case you were wondering, Formula Rossa is actually the name of Ferrari’s rollercoaster in Ferrari Land in the United Arab Emirates. It is the world’s fastest roller coaster. The track is fashioned after that, being high energy that relies heavily on build ups, just like a rollercoaster. I’m sure this track will be in the top #5 on the Beatport trance charts before we know it. A&B just keep pushing out new material and style like no one else in the industry.

1. DEADMAU5 “AURAL PSYNAPSE” [ORIGINAL MIX] (mau5trap)
Release Date: Not released yet on Beatport
I have to admit, I wanted to post this track up earlier on my blog, but opted to wait until it officially was released on Beatport. I couldn’t wait any longer, so here we are, after hearing it on Above & Beyond’s Trance Around The World #398. Interestingly enough, it is a rework of a track he did sometime between 1998-2000. Amazing attention to detail and smooth flow define this progressive house track.

2. MICHAEL CALFAN “RESURRECTION” [AXWELL’S RECUT CLUB VERSION] (Axtone Records)
Release Date: 2011-11-21
Calfan’s “Resurrection” stays in the top #5. It is currently #1 on Beatport overall, which is astounding for a fairly new artist. It definitely doesn’t hurt that Axwell is responsible for about a third of the production. Good track with especially big drops for progressive house.

3. ABOVE & BEYOND “FORMULA ROSSA” [ORIGINAL MIX] (Anjunabeats)
Release Date: 2011-11-27
Above & Beyond move upwards on this week’s countdown. I can’t even start to explain the skill and technicality required to produce a track like this. There’s so much attention paid to detail with all of the elements involved in this multi-layered trance hit. This has engineering equivalent to deadmau5’s “Aural Psynapse”.

4. TIESTO, TRISTAN GARNER “TRAFFIC” [TRISTAN GARNER REMIX] (Magic Muzik)
Release Date: 2011-11-28
Yes, this is the remake of one of the all-time great trance tracks in Tiesto’s “Traffic”. Garner adds a nice signature touch to this hit. There’s enough of the original track in the remake to hold up the integrity of Tiesto.

5. ZEDD “STARS COME OUT” [ORIGINAL MIX] (Dim Mak Records)
Release Date: 2011-11-22
“Stars Come Out” stays in the top #5 for the second week in a row. It is crazy to think that Zedd only happens to be the ripe young age of 22, and he’s already achieved so much success. Great production and even better vocals selection can be attributed to this EDM hit.
